IMN retreat 2025

From April 1–4, 2025, over 30 members of the Institute of Micro and Nanostructure Research (IMN) gathered in the picturesque village of Kleedorf for the annual IMN retreat. Organized with great care and energy by Benni, Irene, Lena, and Jenny, the retreat brought together all PostDocs, PhD candidates, most master’s students, and student assistants for four days of scientific exchange, relaxation, and team building.

The retreat featured around 20 scientific talks and 10 poster presentations, showcasing the breadth of research at IMN—from 4D STEM methodologies and high-temperature materials to catalyst systems, thin films and nanowires, and the structural characterization of organic solar cells. Discussions also covered advances in 2D and layered materials, as well as particulate, porous, and hierarchical systems such as photonic crystals, explored through state-of-the-art nano-tomography.

To keep minds sharp and spirits high, each presentation session was followed by a brief fitness exercise, offering a refreshing pause and promoting well-being throughout the day.

Midway through the retreat, an excursion afternoon led the group on a scenic hike through the lush spring countryside surrounding Kleedorf. The fresh air and vibrant greenery provided a perfect backdrop for informal discussions and strengthening team bonds.

The IMN retreat once again proved to be a valuable opportunity to connect, collaborate, and recharge—reminding everyone that science thrives not just in the lab, but also in shared experiences and open landscapes
